The main connection which led this study to focus on the Reis map and Reis's relationship with Christopher Columbus is that Reis used Columbus's lost map to draw the shores of the Americas in his Map of 1513. To conduct an effective analysis which reveals the different laters of meaning in the Reis map, it is crucial to know who Piri Reis and Christopher Columbus are as historical focgures and the main link between these two map-makers.
